Lean and green Fiat 500

  • by Mike Torpey
  • January 20, 2016

THE most popular engine in the Fiat 500 range, the 1.2-litre 69bhp petrol, is now up for grabs with an enhanced ‘Eco’ specification.

It heralds efficiency technologies like a smart alternator, better aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tyres plus Start & Stop.

As a result the official CO2 emissions figure for the 1.2 ‘Eco’ is reduced from 110 to just 99g/km which, in turn, cuts the annual road tax bill from £20 to £0 and reduces company car BIK tax liability from 17% to 14% compared to the standard 1.2 69bhp model.

Official fuel economy figures also improve for the newcomer, which can now return a Combined 65.7mpg – an improvement of 5.6mpg.

Performance figures see 0-62mph acceleration take 12.9 seconds, top speed is 99mph.

Safety features comprise larger front brake discs, seven airbags including a driver’s knee airbag, ABS with electronic brake distribution, advanced electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, Hill Holder and hydraulic brake assistance as standard.

Available in Pop Star and Lounge trim levels, prices for the Fiat 500 1.2 ‘Eco’ start at £11,865 – £100 more than the standard version.

Convertible models are priced from £14,515.
