Renault Kadjar eyes up an ambush

A BIG brother for Renault crossover model the Captur will hit UK streets this autumn.

It is called the Kadjar and will be up for grabs in both two and four-wheel drive versions following its public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

The crossover scene is an area of the market being specifically targeted by the French manufacturer and the newcomer is expected to significantly boost Renault’s ambitions as it goes on sale initially in Europe and Africa, followed by China.

Its maker promises that the family-size Kadjar will shake up established thinking by bringing an attractive proposition to the crossover market, one in which its principal rival is likely to be the successful Nissan Qashqai.

And the car certainly stands out with is smooth, athletic design, sporty cabin and upmarket materials.

Apart from enviable interior space within a compact body, buyers will also benefit from advanced connectivity with an R-Link 2 multimedia system plus the latest driving aids.

Courtesy of handles located in the boot, the brand’s Easy Estate system automatically unlocks and folds the 60/40-split rear seats.

And two different boot configurations mean owners can choose between a high position with a completely flat floor for loading large items, or a low position to provide the maximum carrying capacity.

Head and elbow room in the rear is claimed to be among the best in class while there is also 30 litres of stowage space in the cabin.

With its Flame Red launch colour, the company believes the Kadjar will prove a seductive proposition to customers.

The powertrain range has yet to be confirmed but Renault says particularly efficient engines will position the crossover at the forefront of its area of the market for low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
