Lap of luxury with the Jaguar XJ

  • by Mike Torpey
  • June 17, 2015

Look out for a raft of techno treats, extra style and fresh models when the new Jaguar XJ hits the streets this autumn.

Prices for the 2016 version of the all-aluminium executive saloon will start at £58,690 for the standard wheelbase 3.0-litre diesel variant in Luxury trim.

The XJ will boast a new InControl Touch Pro touchscreen infotainment system with, says Jaguar, door-to-door navigation, seamless iOS and Android connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot and 26-speaker, 1,300W Meridian sound system.

And a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster will offer full-screen navigation display.

Beneath the bonnet is a choice of an uprated 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine delivering a hefty 300PS while reducing CO2 emissions by more than six per cent to 149g/km, a 3.0-litre 340PS V6 petrol automatic plus 510 and 550PS 5.0-litre V8 automatics.

Electric power-assisted steering is claimed to offer even greater feel and response, at the same time reducing fuel consumption, and All-Surface Progress Control enables smoother drive-away on snow and ice.

Styling changes are best described as subtle, with full LED headlights and double J-Blade daytime running lights introduced plus materials like semi-aniline leather and inlay veneers to enhance the interior.

Advanced driver assistance systems include lane keep-assist, adaptive cruise control with queue-assist, reverse traffic detection, closing vehicle sensing, 360-degree surround camera system and semi-automated bay and parallel-parking.

Jaguar fans can also pick from new R-Sport and flagship Autobiography models alongside the existing XJ Luxury, Premium Luxury, Portfolio and XJR variants. Stylish Black Pack options will also be up for grabs.

The range-topping Autobiography model is new to XJ in the 2016 model year and available only with the long-wheelbase body.

It comes with chrome front bumper air intakes and 20-inch wheels while inside are quilted leather seats with contrast stitching, a leather headliner and oak inlay veneer plus illuminated stainless steel treadplates, air vents and boot finisher.

The rear features individual seats with massage function and an entertainment system with two folding HD screens.

Prices range from £58,690 to £100,000.
