Family fun on track for CarFest

  • by Mike Torpey
  • July 22, 2015

Family fun by the bucketload will be served up at this summer’s double-barrelled CarFest extravaganza.

That’s the promise from Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans, who  says both his CarFest North – at Cheshire’s Oulton Park from July 31-August 2 – and CarFest South at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend, will be bursting with activities and entertainment for all ages.

Apart from supercars, classics, festival food and top line rock acts the carnivals, in aid of BBC Children in Need, will see children able to get behind the wheel of  go-karts, jeeps and kiddie quads at the Gocompare.com Kids’ Driving School.

Footie, rugby, hockey and netball fans can hone their goal scoring skills in Goalfest, or learn everything from magic tricks to basket weaving at Summer Camp.

There’s even going to be a beach, with a mountain of sand being brought to both venues to create a chill-out area with deck chairs and extreme sandcastle building competitions.

Rock acts wow the crowds at CarFest North

Festival goers can turn back the clock at the Car Clubs & Vintage Village area and marvel at the daredevil antics of Stunt School.

Local talent will also have a chance to shine, acoustically at least, on the Wigwam stage; and people can learn how to walk on hot coals under the eye of experts from UK Firewalk.

A Big Top, showground, air displays and a taste-off with Tom Kerridge and Paul Hollywood  to find out whether those at CarFest North prefer sausage rolls or Scotch eggs bring some added flavour.

Among the top bands performing at both events are the Boomtown Rats, Seasick Steve, Scouting for Girls, Level 42, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Texas, Midge Ure and The Feeling.

Headlining at CarFest North will be Primal Scream (Friday, July 31), Joss Stone plus Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott of Beautiful South fame (Saturday, August 1) and Will Young (Sunday, August 2) while topping the bill at CarFest South will be Jools Holland (Friday, August 28), Paloma Faith (Aug 29) and Take That (Aug 30).

Track action at CarFest South

In addition to track action from F1 cars, touring and rally cars,  landmark classics and dragsters, at Oulton Park strongman Simon Plant will attempt to pull 14 Ford Fiestas around part of the track.

With a minimum of 25 per cent of all ticket revenues going directly to the charity, CarFest – now in its fourth year – has already donated more than £3.5 million to BBC Children in Need.

There are still a few day tickets left for Friday (July 31) at CarFest North, at £60 for an adult and £11 for those aged 6-16. Otherwise both venues are sold out.

Full details of both 2015 CarFests can be found on the official website at www.carfest.org
