Discovery Sport is star in the north

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has been voted 2015 Northern Car of the Year.

It topped the annual poll run by the region’s pre-eminent motoring journalists – members of the Northern Group of Motoring Writers.

It is the second time in three years that Land Rover have scooped the prestigious award, the Range Rover having attracted most votes in 2013.

The Liverpool-built Disco Sport, which replaced the Freelander on the Halewood production line, features all-wheel drive and five plus two stadium seating in a vehicle footprint no larger than rival five-seat prestige off-roaders.

That’s in addition to a smartly appointed cabin with vertical centre console, 8-inch touchscreen, multiple storage areas, four 12V power points and USB charging sockets for all three rows of seats.

Prices are from £30,695 for the 2.0-litre 150PS TD4 SE diesel with four-wheel drive rising to £46,000 for the 2.0-litre 180PS TD4 HSE Dynamic Lux automatic model.

Northern writers chairman Steve Teale and the organiser of the ballot, Alan Domville, presented the award – an inscribed miner’s lamp – to Land Rover’s Tracey Tompsett.
