Hyundai Inster Cross ready to roll

HYUNDAI’S new off-road style version of its Inster electric city car is now open for orders, with prices from £28,745.

Named the Inster Cross, this latest offering from the Korean car giant certainly looks the part with its chunky bumpers, embossed side cladding, roof rails and skid plates, but unlike a real off-roader it doesn’t have all-wheel drive.

It’s an eye-catcher nonetheless, the car’s interior featuring a stylish colour scheme of grey upholstery with lime-yellow highlights and dash trim, along with reclining and sliding rear seats that split/fold 50:50.

Buyers also get a 10.25-inch touchscreen display plus a digital instrument cluster of the same size, sat nav, a mobile phone charging pad, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth with voice recognition and Bluelink connected car services.

There are also some handy driver-assistance systems like Highway Driving Assist 1.5 which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitor and a surround view camera system.

A 49kWh battery is standard, providing a maximum power output of 115PS and up to 223 miles on a single charge. Acceleration is 0-62 in 10.6 seconds and top speed 93mph.

And as with the Inster 01 and 02 models, a battery heating system and high-efficiency heat pump is fitted as standard, to both optimise range and charging times.

Five exterior colour options are available, though only one of them – Natural Ivory – comes free of charge. Amazons Green matt and Areo Silver are an £800 option, while Atlas White costs £300 and Abyss Black £600.

All Inster Cross models come with Hyundai’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty, eight-year/100,000-mile hhigh voltage battery warranty and 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.
