THE all-new Nissan LEAF has landed the title of World’s Best Compact Car by the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year jury.
This latest LEAF is the third generation of the Japanese company’s mass-market electric vehicle and the award recognises its design, powertrain performance and smart technology – as well its time-honoured role in the consumer shift to electric vehicles.
It has a 75kWh battery option, which delivers a range of up to 386 miles on a single charge and when you do need to plug in, the car supports 150kW DC fast charging, recovering up to 273 miles in 30 minutes.
At the heart of the new LEAF is an electric motor delivering responsive levels of performance, its 215bhp of punch and 355Nm of torque propelling the car from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds (Sport Mode / 75kWh battery).
Another boost for prospective buyers is that the Nissan is eligible for the full UK Electric Car Grant of £3,750. Prices are from £32,249 with first customer deliveries from next month.

As Nissan’s most aerodynamic production car to date, the new LEAF offers enhanced charging speeds and a suite of technologies to make driving easier, including Google Built-In, which gives access to Google Maps without a phone, plus app and game downloads from Google Play.
Nissan president and ECO Ivan Espinosa said: “This recognition from WWCOTY reinforces our commitment to making EVs accessible and desirable for all drivers.
“The original LEAF helped lay the foundation for global EV adoption. With its advanced features and technologies, this new generation makes everyday driving easier, more enjoyable and invites customers to embrace life with EVs.”
The WWCOTY jury, made up of 84 automotive journalists from 54 countries, does not select a “woman’s car” because cars are not gender-specific, but evaluates vehicles based on universal criteria that matter to all motorists.
Founded in 2009 by New Zealand journalist Sandy Myhre, WWCOTY is the only automotive award judged exclusively by women journalists and represents voices from every continent.
