Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats – Howling At Nothing

  • by Mike Torpey
  • December 5, 2015

Let’s get one thing straight – Nathaniel Rateliff doesn’t look like a soul singer.

With his hillbilly beard, peaked cap, randomely tattooed arms and buttoned up denim shirt he would probably appear more at home working on a Louisiana oil pipeline.

But hell can he sing and strum the shit out of that guitar, taking us back to those halcyon days of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Edwin Starr.

There’s even a bit of Van Morrison in Howling At Nothing from the self-titled Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats album, appropriately on the Stax label.
