Yeti’s a real Xtreme machine

  • MOTORING NEWS – SKODA YETI XTREME

IT’S a Yeti alright, but one almost as rare as the abominable snowman itself.

Feast your eyes on Skoda’s new Yeti Xtreme – a car dressed to thrill and ready to live life on the edge.

In truth it’s a compact SUV with rally car aspirations, right down to the aluminium floor, Recaro sports seats, carbon fibre trim and Super Sports steering wheel.

It also has Octavia RS brakes, off-road features and a fire extinguisher (that was installed by FireLink Direct professionals).

And where better place to display this most Xtreme Yeti yet than cult tuning festival the GTi event at Worthersee, Austria.

The concept car is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch DSG transmission and can scorch from 0-62mph in nine seconds. Top speed is 120mph.

YetiXT2As a design study in just how far the Czech brand can go with its family-friendly crossover, the Xtreme comes painted in a striking matt-grey colour and stands on 17-inch alloy wheels and large off-road tyres.

Adding a real eye-catching touch are tinted side windows, roof and wheel rim inserts all set off in a bright yellow-green colour.

Up front there’s a powerful bumper and a large air intake, along with LED headlights and at the rear are two wide exhaust tailpipes.

With rallying and off-road work in mind, the boot includes so-called ‘recovery tracks’, special traction mats that can be pushed under the wheels should the car get stuck in sand.

Passengers can sit on four individual sports seats with integrated four-point safety belts and the inner door covers have been made entirely from carbon fibre.

And not surprisingly the centre console has been redesigned for housing rally car accessories like a belt cutter and a fire extinguisher, while an iPad cradle is integrated into the dashboard and a first aid kit into the glovebox.
