The original Jaguar XF was a car pulsing with automotive theatre and technology.
Now the new second generation variant of the big cat’s sports saloon is raising the bar again.
The latest version, revealed this week at the New York Auto Show, will cost from £32,300 when it hits the streets later this year.
And fans of the model, which sits between the upcoming compact XE and larger XJ, will be getting a car that’s not only lighter but also has the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-hybrid model in its area of the market at 104g/km.
That’s in addition to a longer wheelbase, more interior space and low aerodynamic drag.
Jaguar’s extensive use of aluminium has enabled weight savings of up to 190kg – making the 163bhp diesel model 80kg lighter than its closest competitor.

The line-up comprises XF Prestige, XF R-Sport, XF Portfolio and XF S models with the 2.0d 163bhp Prestige version kicking off the range.
Engines will consist of 163 and 180bhp 2.0-litre diesel manual and automatic models plus a 300bhp diesel automatic and fiery 380bhp 3.0-litre petrol automatic.
Jaguar says there will be more head, leg and kneeroom for rear passengers and a feature of the car’s interior will be a new 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Called InControl Touch Pro, it offers door-to-door navigation, iOS and Android connectivity and 17-speaker, 825W Meridian digital surround sound.
And extra technology includes the likes of LED headlights, a laser head-up display in colour, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with queue-assist, lane keep-assist, intelligent speed limiter and semi-automated parking.
Jaguar XF vehicle line director Ian Hoban said: “From an engineering perspective, our targets with the all-new XF were bound by one holistic goal – it had to do everything better, and it does.”
